The reasons for my anxiety are irrelevant to this story, so I'll spare you the details of all the thoughts that were going on in my head, but what I was feeling (and, admittedly, am still struggling with a little as I write this) was fear; a lack of faith that He'll truly come through for me and provide for me. But while I was in the midst of my pity party, dumping my stress and worry on Him, I came across a passage that I have read several times before, yet, clearly, needed to read again:
Trust in the Lord and do what is good;dwell in the land and live securely.
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart's desires.
Commit your way to the Lord;trust Him, and He will act,
Making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday.
Be silent before the Lordand wait expectantly for Him…-Psalm 37:3 - 7
What does it tell us to do? It tells us to: Trust in Him. Do what is good. Take delight in Him. Commit our ways to Him. Be silent before Him. And, yes, everyone's least favorite including yours truly...wait for Him.
I know, I know - waiting for anything is hard, but waiting on the Lord is extra hard in my opinion. Why? Because it seems like he works painfully slow, doesn't it? But, remember, he is not a slave to the human clock; he is working all things together for our good and will make them beautiful in His time, not ours. But look at the word after "wait" in the passage above; don't skim over it. The Bible doesn't say that we are to wait hopelessly , it tells us to wait EXPECTANTLY! Wait expectantly for what? For him to fulfill the desires of our hearts, to act. I don't know about you, but that's great news to me; it makes me breathe a little easier and consider not sending out the invitations to my pity party after-all!
It is easy to get ourselves worked up about the future, to stress and worry about things that are out of our control, but when you start to feel anxious about life - boys, schoolwork, parents, friendships, whether you'll get into college, what you want to do with your life - just take a deep breath, trust Him at His Word, and wait expectantly for Him to act. He always keeps His promises...always.
