Created.

I've been studying Genesis--specifically the world's creation--over the past week. I have been thinking a lot about the word CREATED. (Gen 1:1- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.) Throughout the whole passage, we read of God making these grand actions--he creates light, he separates water and dry land, creates vegetation, the sun, moon, and stars, animals on land, water, and sky, and finally he creates man. Yet every action God took, every grand gesture he made, was purposive; there was a plan and intentionality behind each move. This is not hard for us to grasp. Of course God had to be intentional in creating the WORLD and all that is in it. Earth would just be a gigantic ball of chaos if He was not.

The Hebrew word for create in Genesis is “bara.” Bara is only used to describe “God’s activity in initiating a thing or project.” Again, this is not surprising if you think of it in context of God creating the entire world. But how does it make you feel to think that same word—bara—is used when describing God’s creation of you?

God created man in His own image, in the
image of God He created him; male and female He
created them.
-Gen.1:27

But that is not just referring to Adam and Eve, or a blanket for all man kind. It also refers to you and me. God initiated you—very purposefully and intentionally.

You knit me together in my mothers womb. -Psalm 139:13

He created you intricately and specifically.

I think the thing that has continued to press on my mind about this whole “create” thing is that while my life may not always seem to be grand gestures of creation by God (like when he created the earth), He is still there, moving through my life, planning, acting. He initiated events in your life today—at school, practice, home...all over today - events that were purposeful and intentional.

All this to say, KNOW that you are intentionally created (or initiated), and so is every small detail that happens in your daily life.
