“Considering what the character and condition of man is, we may be amazed that God should deal with him as he does. The promise of Christ includes all; if the Lord God be ours, what more can we ask, or think of? (Eph 3:20) He knows better than we know ourselves, therefore let us be satisfied with what he has done for us. What can we say more for ourselves in our prayers, that God has said for us in his promises?” (Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary)
Oh Lord God,
I need nothing but You.
Not riches, nor fame
Nor family or friends.
Nothing but You.
For you satisfy me.
More than I could ever need.
You fill my cup in abundance.
You bless me beyond measure.
Nothing but You.
I am so unworthy of your grace.
So unworthy of your loving-kindness.
Only You can save me from the path of destruction.
Nothing but You.
Help me to remember I need nothing but You.
You are all I need.
Nothing but You.
That is a prayer I wrote in response to a study of Ephesians 3. The next time you finish your devotional, try writing out a prayer. But instead of just writing out "Dear Jesus, thank you for today... please help me with...." write out a prayer surrounding one theme, choosing intentional words, with depth in meaning. It will be a worshipful experience--much better than the rut of a prayer life most of us fall into.
